Hello Von,
We have not met. I found your 'Filipino Librarian' few months ago. Congratulations for your SLA Award. That is impressive!

With my strong interest in making a difference to Philippine librarianship, specifically to the UP ILS (now ILIS)and to the University of the Philippines, my alma mater, I had been searching to reconnect.

Hence, I call this as a 'Starting Point' to UPLSAA. To others who know me, I initiated helping the ILS Library in its resources, though few, hopefully, that activity made a difference. I am strong interest in mentoring and coaching library and information science students. I was in that role several years ago and so I could relate.

This 'Starting Point' enhances my connectivity with all UPLSAA Officers and members living anywhere.

Your commitment to Philippine librarianship is providing a model to other Filipino librarians working in any type of library. With my absence in Diliman for several years now, I am restarting to 'seek', 'search', and 'evaluate' what has been going on with the profession in the Philippines or the current trends in our profession back home.

So as an information professional, I would like to suggest to the UPLSAA Officers or Editor or whoever [of course, I am looking for an authoritative essay/article], to write an article on Philippine librarianship : the current trends, how different it is now than before [though maybe, it could be difficult on the part of the writer to determine what was the past, if he/she did not experience the 1970s and so the past could be researched] or maybe writing an article on the 'current trends' in the profession : are librarians or in general, we are called - information professionals, in the Philippines -keeping up with the global trend/s of 'making themselves VISIBLE'? are Filipino librarians customizing the services they are offering - that is, considering their customers and not just their own set of rules and policies/procedures?
Are Filipono Librarians or information professionals shifted to a different 'model': that model is what you call the paradigm shift - shift from that focus of collecting, organizing, disseminating, preserving, and destroying resources/information TO the model of 'focus on customers, users, clients'; of thinking users' needs and not always what the library policies/procedures are, etc.; and other information that will be of value to us 'the members of UPLSAA' who are not physically in Philippines, who may not have been on top of how the role of Filipino Librarians impact or create a significant value to their clients, to the organizations their libraries are affiliated to, etc.

In summary, I am very pleased that someone started this UPLSAA Online.
So to Von... great work! and also to the Officers of UPLSAA who are working hard to make the Association 'alive' and 'energizing' as I see it in the latest newsletter, I say 'GREAT WORK TO ALL OF YOU!'
(In fact, the print newsletter arrived in my Office in-box, more than a month it was sent via regular mail).

Let's connect and I hope to hear from anyone in the group.

I know everyone is busy, though connecting with each other via this online postings is good and energizing! We learn from each other - that is for 'continuous development' one of the competencies for an IP (Information Professional in the 21st century).
